"How come we don't get to go to school?" Adam asked as he hurled a rock off the hilltop. The stone sailed high into the peach-colored sky. The blinding light from the nearly-setting sun wouldn't allow him to see where it landed.
"Mom and Pop need us here on the farm, you know," Eloise yawned as she lied back on the soft grass and stretched. She looked up at the clouds with their edges highlighted pink. "Just read books from Auntie's collection like I do. That's why she left them to us, you know. To keep reading and keep learning, because she knew we wouldn't be able to go to school."
He threw another rock. "Reading's boring, tho
